Nestling on the Loire estuary between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, discover the Cordemais thermal power station!

 

With 2 coal-fired generating units, the Cordemais power station is used to supplement nuclear and renewable energies during peaks in electricity consumption, helping to guarantee energy requirements and balance the electricity grid.

In the context of the Energy Transition, the EDF Group is committed to adapting its industrial infrastructure by taking an innovative, environmentally-friendly and economically efficient route: the ECOCOMBUST project.

 

Currently in the trial phase at the Cordemais power station, this project aims to produce a new fuel locally from plant biomass and to convert production facilities to co-combustion. This innovative approach promotes ecological sustainability while offering economic benefits.

The EDF Cordemais power station opens its doors to the general public.

There are 4 visit options.

La route de l'électricité (The electricity route): The Cordemais power station is revealed through an enriching tour by coach or shuttle. Take a complete tour of the site and discover the unusual and monumental installations. An unforgettable visit with lots of memories.

Free - From CM1-CM2 - Duration: 2 hours

Electricity trails: Equip yourself as an EDF agent and get up close and personal with industrial installations. For one hour, dive into the bowels of the power station and understand how it works. Turbo-alternators, grinders, boilers and the control room await you for a visit that's unique in Loire-Atlantique.

 

Free - From age 12 - Duration: 2 hours

The electricity circuit: Enjoy a guided tour of the industrial facilities on board your coach, then learn about the challenges of the energy mix as you explore the power station on foot.

Free - From age 12 - Duration: 3 hours

 

The Cordemais power station along the river: The tour departs from the port of Cordemais, along the étier that flows into the Loire. The first breathtaking glimpses of the marshes or the Villa chimney that marks the entrance to the river and the impressive panorama of the power station. From the arrival of the fuels, coal and fuel oil, to the treatment of the smoke and the work carried out on the power station's water inlets, the power station is revealed with the help of a guide. To take advantage of this unique cruise, book at least 24 hours in advance. Duration: 1 hour.

The outdoor tour of the power station: The Cordemais power station is revealed on an outdoor walking tour. Walk along the coal park, discover the Villa Cheminée, learn about the history of the port of Cordemais and take a different look at the unusual and monumental installations at the Power Station.

The educational area of the Cordemais power station is open by appointment for school groups and associations.

Valid ID (ID card or passport) must be presented.

Visits are only open to children aged 12 and over, accompanied by an adult.

A copy of an identity document must be provided at least one week in advance to gain access to the site.
